KNPHI & Palladium step up their partnership in Tackling Deadly Diseases Initiative
The Kenya National Public Health Institute [KNPHI] and Palladium have intensified their working collaboration through Tackling Deadly Diseases in Africa 2 (TDDAP 2) program seeking to provide support to build health security capacity in the country and improve national public health systems.
This is in line with the UK’s vision for progress on health security in Africa through delivery of technical and financial support to build health security capacity, strengthen key regional institutions to help build and improve global health security and improve national public health systems and functions with increased national ownership and leadership of outbreak responses.
According to Team Leader of TDDAP2 in five focus countries, including Kenya Dr Shamwill Issah, the primary goal of this program is to reduce illness and death from infectious disease threats by enhancing national and regional
capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to outbreaks, in full alignment
with the International Health Regulations (IHR) and Kenya's national
health security priorities.
TDDAP2 is designed to be a direct implementation partner for the Ministry of
Health and the Kenya National Public Health Institute (KNPHI) with their support expected to be channeled through four key components:planning, workforce development, surveillance and laboratory systems, and community engagement.
Strong resilient health systems – equipped with and prepared for an emergency – constitute a critical line of defence in reducing the risk that small events will turn into emergencies.
Health emergencies as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the need for effective health system preparedness and high-quality health services in tackling infectious diseases.
